於2004年11月1日同意給予橄欖油「符合性健康聲明」(qualified health claim),以促進民眾選擇健康的食物。
FDA准許橄欖油的標籤冠上「非結論性的科學研究顯示,每日食用2湯匙(約23克)的橄欖油可以減少心臟疾病的危險。
為了達到這個可能效用,橄欖油會取代幾乎等量的飽和脂肪,而且也不致增加卡洛里總量」
(Limited and not conclusive scientific evidence suggests that eating about two tablespoons(23 gram)of olive oil daily may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. To achieve this possible benefit,olive oil is to replace a similar amount of saturated fat and not increase the total number of calories you eat in a day. )
